September Mourning is a rock band that should be a lot more popular than they are. My radio friend from El Paso, Kevin Vargas first turned me on to them. While so many bands meander in indifference and cannot find their own shadows, September Mourning convincingly seals the deal! The music in simple terms is the soundtrack for a series of graphic novels that are the brain child of singer, Emily Lazar and graphic novelist,  Mark Silvestri .. under the name.. September Mourning.. Their current track, “Glass Animals” is an empowering anthem that treads a different path; and that’s what makes them a band with great potential. Its steers in between girl power and sleaze under the guise of a woman who is a human- a reaper hybrid that gives human souls a second chance  to alter their lives by changing their fate. Yes,  Lazar is defiantly in step with today’s female heroines –

In the graphic novels she’s pluckier, holier and a androgynous creature with piercing eyes and spiky hair who has a strong and flexible voice – rough or silvery, depending on the song. Mourning is a character who has stood up against oppression. She may be considered a saint or even a martyr but make one point very clear don’t judge her solely  on her literary prowess; her band can rock like nobody’s business! The riffs soar, the solo’s scream thanks to guitarist,Rich Juzwick. The choruses are massive and there’s enough in the lyrics to relate to the lives of their yearning audience.  To be exact, Lazar is like a child of fate… Their music is rock and roll… punk, glam and metal are its progeny…Everything about them is the antithesis of the bland and other times cacophony  written by an ill-conceived  focus group horseshit peddled by a plethora of bands.
